Ash eventually makes it across Asia to Dumaguete for some tech diving

After years of living in Asia and more than 3 years of diving in the Philippines, and constantly being harrassed about trying a technical course, Ashley Mills booked in earlier this year to visit in the first 2 weeks of December

At the very end of November it started to look like he might not make it as thousands of people got stranded in Bangkok[Ashley’s home] due to the airports being shut. However, Ash was determined to follow through on his “holiday” and training, and managed to get himself to Dumaguete only a week behind schedule

Reshuffling the program a little to maximise the time with Spike, Ash was quickly dealing with scenario dives under the DuCoMi pier(some of the best diving in Asia) - having his mask blacked out, and a buddy out of air, while trying to swim backwards and maintain buoyancy! At first a bit taken aback, Ash soon stepped up to the challenge and after 3 days was quite amazed himself with what he had achieved so far

We continued with various skills as Ashley tried to master the Enhanced Skills Diver course, as well as Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures. A few sessions in the pool and Ash gained confidence and some semblance of a backwards kick, certainly enough for a few deco dives at Apo Island

So we took off with Mike on his rebreather for 2 days of diving at Chapel Point and The Sanctuary. I managed to get a few acceptable photos of the guys while diving, and we all enjoyed the beautiful fans and other marine life down the wall. Some awesome tech diving!

Congratulations to Ashley on passing the AN/DP class, and I look forward to diving with you again in March when you return
